Dr. T.S. Chandrasekar, MD, DM, FRCP (Glasgow) was awarded the prestigious D.Sc (Doctor of Science – Honoris Causa) degree by the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University at Chennai on Tuesday, the 10th November, 2009. Dr. Chandrasekar is a world renowned Interventional Gastroenterologist & Therapeutic Endoscopist who has many firsts to his credit. He is the Chairman & Chief Gastroenterologist of MedIndia Institute of Medical Specialities (MIMS), a unit of Medindia Hospitals, Chennai & Coimbatore. He is also the Founder Trustee of MedIndia Charitable Trust, a medical educational trust which is involved in creating public awareness about various types of Digestive Cancers  
Dr. Chandrasekar was the immediate Past President of Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI). He serves as the Governing Council Member of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and is an Advisory Board Member of the Medical Journal, Digestive Endoscopy. Dr. Chandrasekar was the recipient of the prestigious Olympus J-Mitra Endoscopy Award during 2008. He has also been awarded with the SISCO-PENTAX Oration Award during 2009.

Delivered the prestigious SGEI Presidential Oration, Jaipur, 2008
Invited international faculty for X World Congress of Gastroenterology at Los Angeles, USA, 1994 and for the Endoscopy Workshop, Srilanka for the years 1999, 2000 and 2004.
Dr. Chandrasekar was awarded the ADVANCED ENDOSCOPY FELLOWSHIP AWARD during 2006 and underwent Training Program at Kitazato University East Hospital, Tokyo and Kyoto 2nd Red Cross Hospital, Kyoto.

Has completed Fellowship Award Training at (a) University Hospital, Hamburg, Germany (b) Amsterdam Medical Centre, Amsterdam, Netherlands (c) Institute of Liver Diseases, King’s College, London, United Kingdom and (d) University Libre De Bruxelles, Bruxelles, Belgium.
Has been invited as faculty for the Asia Pacific Digestive Diseases Week (APDDW), New Delhi, 2008.
Organised and convened 100 Weekly Scientific meetings for City based Gastroenterologists at Chennai.

Dr. Chandrasekar has organized 5 International conferences, 10 National Conferences, 20 Regional Conferences and 12 Endoscopy Crash courses.

 Dr.T.S.Chandrasekar had a brilliant academic career. He was the Best Outgoing Student in his MBBS with 13 Gold Medals. He did his MD (Medicine) and DM (Gastroenterology) from the most prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.


Dr.T.S.Chandrasekar has been honoured with the most prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCP – Glasgow). The award was conferred to him at Glasgow, UK on Wednesday, the 22nd July, 2009.


Senior active life member of the Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI) with more than 23 years of experience in the field of Interventional Gastroenterology & Therapeutic Endoscopy.
Worked as Teaching Faculty - Assistant Professor, Department of Gastroenterology, Madras Medical College & Government General Hospital, Chennai.


Dr.T.S.Chandrasekarr has set up and organized the Department of Gastroenterology, Government Medical College & Hospital, Coimbatore.
Functioned as President, Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI), 2007-08 and also served as its Vice-President and Governing Council Member.


Awarded the prestigious Olympus J. Mitra Endoscopy award for the year 2008 for outstanding contribution in the field of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
